Banana Juice

Can you juice bananas?

You will go bananas trying to juice a banana. Trailing just behind avocados, bananas are the second hardest fruit to juice. There might be a little juice in there, but unfortunately, there is no efficient way to get to it.  If your patient, and alternate other juices or fruit segments, you might be able to extract what some would refer to as banana juice.  Slightly over-ripe bananas will yield the most.

Since all juice machines are different, refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations before attempting to juice this fruit.

Alternative Methods

Even though bananas are not the best fruit to feed into your juice machine, there are plenty of ways to incorporate them into your juicing regimen.

With the help of a blender, you can easily create many fruit juice smoothies by blending bananas with freshly juiced fruit. I keep a freezer bag full of peeled and sliced frozen bananas for when the urge strikes.  You can also freeze juice in ice-cube trays for convenient smoothie ingredients.

Here is a list of fruit juices that you can use to make some great banana smoothies.

  • Cantaloupe
  • Honeydew
  • Strawberry
  • Cranberry
  • Blueberry
  • Pineapple
  • Peach
  • Mango
  • Papaya
  • Orange
  • Apple
  • Kiwi

Smoothie Variations

If you would like to get more protein, you can blend in yogurt, peanut butter or protein powder.  To add some extra fiber, try adding some oatmeal.  For an easy way to get some omega 3’s, into your diet, blend in a heaping tablespoon of chia seeds.  Soaking the oatmeal or chia seeds in water for about ten minutes will make blending much easier.
